BELIEVED DECEASED

Please understand that Police need to inform the families of the deceased before the info is released to the public so this is the   list so far. Some names may not be released for some time yet. I have been asked many times how many people have actually been identified - I have no idea, that is information only the Police hold and as it's such a sensitive matter it's really only between the families and police for discussion. At this point we have to assume that the people still technically "missing" from the fire, most of whom are on the list below, have died. After 4 years of working with missing persons I know that can be just not good enough, to have to assume they are gone instead of actually knowing with concrete proof. I wish the circumstances were different.

* A HUGE thanks to Wendy for doing so much work to assist me compile this list, her help has been vital.

Most names may be clicked on for links to further information about them.

It is my goal to link every name to the story behind their brave fight - they are not just names, they are complete lives.

Photo Tribute Wall now being compiled for the victims, please click here

*Asterisk next to their name indicates I have a photo of them on the wall. If you have a photo for someone I've missed feel free to e mail it -                    austmissingpersons@supernerd.com.au

As the list is now getting quite long, all new additions to the list will have entries in ORANGE for a few days so if you check the list regularly, you can more easily spot new names.

Please know that whenever I update this page, the tears roll down my face.

*Steve Lackas, 37, Wandong. The speedboat champion died trying to save his boat after his property was engulfed in flames. Lackas, a veteran of the V8 Superboat Championships, had his engine running to tow the boat but ran back into his house at the last minute to get some more belongings.

Gennaro Laudisio Kinglake. Mr Laudisio's children Isabella and Ross tried to get their father to safety but the fire was too fast. Ross Laudisio, 58, was travelling in convoy with his father in one car and wife and children in another, when the fire hit. He lost sight of both cars in the darkness and was forced off the road into a paddock to avoid the flames. When he managed to venture onto the road he found his father's charred car in the midst of a four-car crash. His body was later found on the back seat.

*Lesley Leahy (39) & her children Kiona (4), Jye (3) and Ava (2), Kinglake West - Lesley, the children and their father David Gibson  were at their Kinglake West home monitoring the fires and believed they were 100kms away. When Kinglake West was finally mentioned they looked outside to see the fire already on top of them. They sheltered in the house until it caught fire then made a run for their dam, each carrying children. However Lesley was too weak to run and stopped, holding Kiona. David continued on carrying Ava and threw her over the fence into the dam. He went back to find Lesley and Kiona had died and he could not find Jye in the intense heat and smoke but was certain he too had perished. David and Ava lay in the dam for an hour and a half but he knew he had to get help so he carried the badly burned Ava all the way to the relief centre. Due to David's own severe burns he was in a coma for four weeks and when he woke he learned little Ava had died a couple of days after arriving in hospital. His courage and bravery in trying to save his family is awe inspiring.

The funerals will be held at 11am on Saturday, May 9 in Parkes, NSW

You always said you felt so loved in our home and it is that love for you that keeps us strong, it will be eternal, mate! "Our Beautiful Boy" We love you Jonno! - Dad and Gaye. Jon - even though you are all grown up, I still can't help but think of you as my baby brother. Watching you grow from a boy to a man (and keeping your head of curls), you were such a genuine soul. I cherish the memories I have and hold them close to my heart, you and me the youngest and the oldest, eternally in my heart. Love - Gemma. Jon - you'll always fill my heart with love that we shared and grew together. Your beautiful smile with that cheeky grin showed the love you expressed to life, which will forever be remembered. I could not see how my life would have been without the skateboard and the Nintendo that we tried to out-do each other with "which you were always better than me at." I thank you for your love, for the smile and more importantly for being nothing other than yourself. "Head" I will forever love you - Aidan. Jon - my cricket mate, friend and brother. Growing up with you and experiencing the laughs and fun of both our childhoods is something I will never forget. I will always remember your joy, energy and cheeky sense of humour. *Phil Perry # - Strathewen - Libby and Phil died together at their home. This wonderful tribute from Sally Catt - Phil Perry was on his usual annual service visit to us on Thursday 5th February. We have contracted him for many years to service our microscopes in our teaching labs at Monash Institute of Medical Research, Clayton. He was a wonderful man, whom anyone would immediately warm to. He had a huge knowledge and passion for microscopes and was always willing to share his wealth of experience, which is unsurpassed in Australia, I am sure. Even on that Thursday, he took the time and trouble to show one of our keen students Jacky, how to set up a microscope from scratch. He was half way through the job, but unfortunately never came back to finish the project with her on the Monday and we still have his meticulously laid out tools in our lab. His warm personality really shone through on that day, as three people, two staff members and one student, whom he had never met before, were all deeply affected by his loss, along, of course, with many others in our Institute whom have known him over the years. Sincerest condolences, Sally Catt

                 BY LOCATION.........

Wendy is the person who has worked tirelessly to compile this data, and the spreadsheet is entirely hers. We are still trying to finalise this information; this gives people a better idea of things and I also STILL have friends of those in the fires asking about people they have not heard from. To know that no one died from a particular town, or that all from another town have been identified and named in the list above gives them immense peace of mind, to know their friends must be safe somewhere.

This first list was issued this week by Victoria Police.

Following that is Wendy's spreadsheet compiling the names of who died in each town.
