Three people charged following murder investigation — Homicide Squad

Homicide Squad detectives have arrested three people following investigations into the suspected murder of Saaid Zaiter last year after he went missing from Chinderah.

NSW Homicide Squad detectives travelled to Lismore on Monday, as part of further investigations into the case.

Just before 7am yesterday, detectives arrested a 26-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman at their home, while a 25-year-old man was arrested a short time later, at an industrial site at Lismore.

The 26-year-old man was subsequently charged with murder, the woman was charged with possessing a prohibited drug, while the 25-year-old man was charged with accessory after the fact to murder.

The two men have been refused bail to appear at Lismore Local Court later today. The woman was bailed unconditionally to appear at Lismore Local Court on 12 October, 2009.

These developments follow extensive investigations by Strike Force Rohan, comprising detectives from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad, with assistance from the Richmond and Tweed/ Byron Local Area Commands.

The investigations relate to the alleged suspected murder of 47-year-old Saaid Zaiter, who was last seen at Chinderah on Tuesday, 16 December last year.

A silver Land Rover Discovery was located burnt-out at Barkers Vale, near Nimbin in NSW, on 16 December last year.

These latest developments follow the earlier extradition of a man and woman from Victoria on Thursday 10 September, to face charges of murder, and accessory after the fact to murder, respectively.

NSW Homicide Squad detectives have successfully made an application for the extradition of a couple from Victoria, following investigations into the suspected murder of a man last year.

NSW Homicide Squad detectives travelled to Melbourne yesterday, as part of investigations into the case.

A 42-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman appeared before Melbourne Magistrate’s Court today for an unrelated matter.

NSW Homicide Detectives today made an application for the extradition of the man and woman back to Sydney.

The man has been charged with murder, while the woman has been charged with accessory after the fact to murder.
