William Hetherington: Search for missing Dallarnil man ends in tragedy as human remains found

A Queensland Police spokesman confirmed the remains, which were discovered in Biggenden at the end of March, matched the 78-year-old’s DNA.

Investigations are underway into the cause of death, which is not being treated as suspicious. Mr Hetherington disappeared from his property north of Biggenden on October 9 last year, triggering wide-scale aerial and land searches involving police, SES crews, and members of the man’s family and community. His family raised the alarm when they were unable to get in contact with him.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
