Queensland homicide detectives are seeking associates of two men believed to have been shot dead south of Brisbane.

Police hold grave concerns for Aaron Smith, 26, of Logan Central, and Cairns man Paul Black, 38, who were last seen at Greenbank on Friday.

Officers are searching for the missing men's associates Trevor Griffiths, 29, and Gary Playford, 35, both from Logan City. It's believed they may have travelled interstate.

Police have said only that shots were fired on Friday, and would not disclose other details.

Mr Black's white Holden Crewman utility was found burnt out off the Beaudesert-Nerang Road at Clagiraba, south of Greenbank.

"We believe the men were shot on the evening of Friday," Detective Acting Inspector Brian Swan said on Tuesday.

"We have not discovered the bodies yet."

Det Acting Insp Swan said the families of the missing men had not heard from them since Friday, which was unusual.

He said Mr Griffiths and Mr Playford were associated with the men, but did not elaborate.

The two associates are believed to be driving a white Toyota Hilux utility with the number plate 758KKJ.

Members of the public have been told not to approach the pair, and to alert Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
