Police appeal for help to locate missing teenager - near Mullumbimby

2009-06-27 14:55:34

NSW Police on the state's far north coast are appealing for help to locate a teenage girl who has been missing for two days.

Samiya Raya [pronounced Sah-my-ah Ray-a] attended an appointment at Mullumbimby about 11am on Thursday (25 June) and then went to a nearby chemist.

The 15-year-old Wilsons Creek girl failed to return to school and also did not attend the fast food business, where she works part-time, as scheduled later that day.

Her concerned father reported her missing to police about 7.30pm and extensive inquiries have been conducted since that time by police from the Tweed/Byron Local Area Command.

She has not been in contact with family or friends since Thursday morning. Police have been told Samiya's disappearance is out-of-character and there are concerns for her welfare.

Police are investigating the possibility Samiya might have left New South Wales and headed north to Queensland. Last year she lived and went to school on the Gold Coast and there is a possibility she has returned to that area.

Samiya is described to police as being of white/European appearance, 175cm tall, with a fair complexion, slim build, shoulder-length bleached-blonde hair and a scar or burn mark on the back of her left hand.

Members of the public who have seen or spoken with Samiya since Thursday are urged to contact Byron Bay Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
