DNA solves missing man mystery

A DNA sample has helped solve the mystery of an elderly Wallsend man who disappeared 13 months ago.
Reginald Allen Smith, 80, vanished in December 2007 while on his daily walk, sparking a search across Newcastle's western suburbs.
His remains were discovered at a Speers Point quarry in July last year, but his family has only recently been told the remains match DNA supplied to police for their investigation.
A funeral service for Mr Smith will be held today at St Patrick's Catholic Church, Wallsend.
