Tasmanian police say they do not hold any hope of finding alive an elderly fisherman missing at Gordon in the state's south.
Police divers, rescue boats and a helicopter have been searching the area south of Hobart for Middleton man Raymond Clifford.
The 74-year-old was last seen on Wednesday morning before he took a dinghy out to do maintenance on a boat anchored about 300 metres offshore.
Family members became concerned when he had not returned in the early afternoon and called police.
Crews searched the area last night but found no trace of him.
Police say they are now treating the search as a body recovery mission.
