Brother urges missing man to make contact
Posted - ABC
The brother of a missing Alice Springs man has urged him to make contact with his family.
Peter Wayne Murphy, 46, was reported missing on August 19.
The father of four was last seen at a bar in Alice Springs two days earlier.
Michael Murphy says his brother would normally advise his family of his travel plans and his disappearance is disturbing.
"Very worried and it's very upsetting for the family. Just that not knowing. If he could contact us or whatever we'd be better off, but yes, just that not knowing where he is," he said.
Peter Wayne Murphy, 46, has not been seen since Sunday, August 17. His former wife reported him missing two days later.
Mr Murphy's sister, Cheryl, of Port Pirie, said it was extremely unusual for him not to regularly contact his estranged children.
He was last seen at Alice Spring's Town and Country bar in the Todd Mall about noon on August 17.
Alice Springs Detective Sergeant Michael Sharkey said Mr Murphy did not have psychological problems.
Police were concerned for his welfare because he had not contacted family or friends.
Mr Murphy had many friends living in South Australia.
"It's totally out of character," Det-Sgt Sharkey said.
Mr Murphy, who left Pt Pirie about 10 years ago, is described as Caucasian, 182cm tall with a slim build, fair complexion, blue eyes, greying brown hair with a grey beard.
Anybody with information about Mr Murphy should contact the police dedicated hot-line ph: 08 8951 8874.
