The search for missing 86-year-old Peter Claux and his dog on the far south coast has entered its fourth day.

Mr Claux was reported missing on Thursday and emergency services searching for him since are increasingly concerned.

Police say Mr Claux's car was found near Tura Beach, north of Merimbula, and he was believed to be in the area with his Labrador Buddy.

Sapphire Coast SES commander Michelle De Friskbom said so far there were "no clues" to Mr Claux's whereabouts.

"That's very disappointing for us, and obviously his family," she said.

A police helicopter joined the search yesterday after officers combed through bushland overnight.

Temperatures have dropped to as low as 3.4 degrees Celsius on Saturday, and 2.9 degrees Celsius on Sunday.

Police say they hold grave concerns for his safety and are urging anyone with information to come forward.

The search continues today.
