Melva Jean CROCKER aka Melva Jean STAFF

 

Melva Crocker was babysitting her grandchildren on 18/7/1981, a Saturday evening.

Her son and daughter in law returned home about midnight. Melva left and was seen at 12:20am by Police. She stated she was driving to Wandin. Melva was then seen again at 8am on July 19th when she bogged her car in Kallista. She was assisted to get her car moving and provided with directions to her home but Melva drove away in the opposite direction.

She was seen again at 10:30am in Olinda where her car was again bogged. She was assisted by two CFA officers. at 2pm Melva was seen walking in Chalet Road, Olinda. This was the last time she was sighted. He car was found bogged on a fire track between McCarthy and Chalet Roads Olinda, Victoria, two days later, with all her worldly possessions, nothing missing, purses, jewellery, clothing etc still intact and the vehicle was locked. Her vehicle was her moving storehouse/come wardrobe, the lot. Police extensively searched the area but Melva was never found. She had been undergoing treatment for a brain tumour and this is thought to have contributed to her disorientation.

Melva Crocker was born in July 1926 in North Richmond, Victoria. She had a younger sister Joyce, who is still alive and her parents were Edmund Ernest Crocker and Alice Beatrice Williams. Melva was married in 1947 to Keith Munro, divorced about 1965/66, She remarried about 1966 to Leonard (Pete) Staff and the family lived in Yellingbo, Victoria. Melva had two sons.
