Circumstances

Malcolm McPhail  aged 83, was last seen about 8am on Tuesday 30th of March 2021 at his home in Spicketts Creek NSW. He was expected to be around the house area however was not there when relatives returned at 2pm. Malcolm regularly completed work on the family farm during the day in the adjacent paddock. Subsequent searches failed to locate Malcolm. Malcolm may be wearing a green jumper, navy coloured long pants, gumboots and a cap.

Despite extensive inquiries, police have not been able to locate him and still hold serious concerns for his welfare as he is unable to be contacted and has not accessed his bank accounts. Police officers  from Coffs/Clarence Police District commenced inquiries to locate him.

Police divers join search for Malcolm McPhail missing near Bellingen

As a fifth day of searching begins there is still no sign of a man who went missing from his home near Bellingen on Tuesday.

A NSW Police spokesperson confirmed the search for Malcolm McPhail  would recommence at 8am Saturday.

Police divers have been called in on Friday and were scouring waterways in the vicinity of his home on Bowraville Road at Spicketts Creek, less than 10 kilometres south of Bellingen.

The search began on Tuesday evening after he was last seen at his home about 8am that morning.

His family hold grave concerns for his welfare as the 83-year-old suffers from a medical condition.

Mr McPhail is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 175cm tall, with a thin build and grey hair and may be wearing a green jumper with navy long pants, gum boots and a cap.

Martin Wells from Coffs Harbour SES said members from three units had assisted with the search under the direction of NSW Police before being stood down on Thursday.

“We had numerous teams out there for three days from the Urunga, Bellingen and Coffs Harbour units,” he said.

“The first night they were out until 10pm and during the day teams were also doing on-water searches of the creeks under the direction of the police.”

Police have suspended the search for a man who went missing near Bellingen last week.

Malcolm McPhail was last seen at his home at Spicketts Creek on March 30 and his disappearance triggered a massive search involving police and volunteers.

A NSW Police spokesperson confirmed the search has been suspended pending a review, but that Mr McPhail is still missing.

About 80 volunteers from the State Emergency Service, Rural Fire Service and the community assisted in the search over the weekend.

While the Bureau of Meteorology downgraded a flood watch for the Bellinger and Orara Rivers, rainfall is still predicted to set in over the coming days, which could make conditions even more challenging.

Both the SES and Police divers searched waterways in the area around Bowraville Road, where Mr McPhail lived.

Mr McPhail is described as being of caucasian appearance, about 175cm tall, with a thin build and grey hair and may be wearing a green jumper with navy long pants, gum boots and a cap.

Almost two weeks since their loved one went missing, the family of Bellingen man Malcolm McPhail is desperately seeking answers.

Kymeeka McPhail said they had been left heartbroken and she is pleading for anyone who may know something about her grandfather’s whereabouts to come forward.

“Pop is still missing. Please, if you see something, say something,” she said.
 

Ms McPhail has provided new images in hopes they will help in the search for her grandfather.

She said the images showed him wearing the green jumper he was believed to be wearing when he went missing on the morning of March 30, and added that it was important to note her grandfather no longer wears glasses.

Mr McPhail, aged 83, was last seen at his home on Bowraville Road in Spicketts Creek and his disappearance triggered a massive search involving police and volunteers last weekend.

Around 80 volunteers from the State Emergency Service, Rural Fire Service and the community provided assistance, while both SES and police divers searched waterways around Bowraville Rd.

While the major search failed to turn up any trace of her grandfather, Ms McPhail said family and members of the police, SES and RFS had continued to look for him almost everyday.
