Public help sought to find missing man

Tableland police are baffled by the disappearance of Karen Lee Sye, 46, whose car was found abandoned at Millaa Millaa in early September.

Lifting the lid on three Atherton Tablelands’ missing persons cases

THREE different women — three different scenarios — three families left looking for answers.

THREE different women – three different scenarios – three families left looking for answers.

These are some of the lost souls of the Atherton Tablelands, who vanished without a trace and left authorities baffled about their whereabouts.

While there is nothing to suggest the disappearances of Hildegard Falkenberg, Katie O’Shea and Karen Leesye are linked, the common theme running through their stories is the complete unknown.

KAREN BELINDA LEESYE

DOB: 1962

Disappeared: September 10, 2008

Circumstances: Spotted driving a car in Mareeba, around 7am, which was found parked and abandoned at the Millaa Millaa Lookout three days later.

HER car was found filled with her possessions 75km from her Mareeba home but what happened to Karen Lee-Sye remains anyone’s guess.

There was previously some suggestion the 46-year-old’s disappearance, almost eight years ago, was suspicious.

Now Det Sen-Sgt Devine said they genuinely had no idea either way.

“It’s really hard to say,” he said.

“But the fact that she disappeared was unusual.”

He said the bushland area where her car was found abandoned could well prevent any answers ever being found.

“You walk a metre off the road and it is dense scrub,” he said.
