Police are calling for public assistance to locate a 25-year-old man who was reported missing in Central Australia on May 24 last year.

Trevor Lankin, also known as Roy Lankin, was last seen in Alice Springs on May 17, 2004.

Police said Mr Lankin had not accessed his bank account since May 18, 2004 and police were asking anyone who may have information about his whereabouts to come forward.

Mr Lankin is described as a male Aborigine, 185cm tall approximately 75 kg and of medium build.

He has a mole under his right eye and a front tooth missing. He also has an 8cm scar on his inner left forearm, a 5cm scar on his upper left arm, a 4cm scar on his left forearm and a 3cm scar on his abdomen.

It is believed he may have travelled to the Papunya community after he was last seen in Alice Springs on May 17.

Detective Senior Constable John Beer said Mr Lankin's disappearance had been reported to Hermannsburg police after relatives became concerned for his welfare.

"It is now just over 12 months since anyone has sighted Mr Lankin and police are hoping the publication of his photo may refresh someone's memory," Sen Const Beer said.

" It is of major concern that Mr Lankin has not contacted his family since he was last seen more than 12 months ago, nor has he accessed his bank account.

"This week is Missing Person's Week and we are hoping members of the public will be able to assist us. We are encouraging anyone who may have any information at all, no matter how seemingly insignificant, to come forward and help us find Mr Lankin."

Anyone who has information about Lankin's whereabouts is asked to contact police on 8951 8888 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
