Forensic officers and detectives have spent three days scouring a Mt St Thomas address for clues to the disappearance of a man last seen at the house.

Nicholas Katopodis, 45, hasn't been seen since July 27 after a day spent with friends at the Wollongong Hellenic Club and later at the Gladstone Ave residence.

Wollongong acting crime manager Detective Chief Inspector Danny Sharkey said police were seeking public help to locate Mr Katopodis or trace his movements.

"Since that time [July 27] he hasn't contacted any of his family or his known associates," he said.

"If anyone has seen him or has any knowledge of his whereabouts, or if in fact nothing untoward has occurred and Mr Katopodis for whatever reason doesn't want to make contact with people, we ask he makes contact with us so we can eliminate him as a missing person."

There's been no activity on his bank account in the past three weeks.

Detectives have attended the missing man's Cordeaux Heights home, a granny flat behind a relative's house.

"There's nothing untoward there, there are some personal belongings, indications are he hasn't been back there," Insp Sharkey said.

He said Mr Katopodis' elderly mother, brother and two sisters were desperate to know he was safe.

Mr Katopodis is described as being of Mediterranean appearance, 160cm tall, thin build, brown hair, brown eyes and olive skin.

He was last seen wearing a dark navy blue or black polar tech-style collared jumper, light blue jeans and white shoes. On the day he was last seen, Mr Katopodis was spotted in an aqua-green coloured 1993 Toyota Corolla sedan.

Wollongong detectives have established Strike Force Franey to investigate the circumstances surrounding the disappearance.

Anyone with information should call Wollongong police on 4226 7899 or CrimeStoppers on 1800 333 000.
