Police are shifting their efforts to the Macedon Ranges, in Victoria, in the search for a Bendigo man who has been missing for nearly two months.

John Cameron went missing in mid-October but was recently seen accessing his bank account in Gisborne.

Senior Constable Sally Dunlop says the 38-year-old suffers from Asperger's Syndrome and is not taking prescribed medicines.

She says police need help from the public to find the man.

"Normally when he gets aware of police interest in where he is, he moves on," she said.

"[But] it depends on how much he's entrenched himself into the area, and how comfortable he is with his surroundings.

"Apparently once he has access to trains and things, his location can change pretty regularly. "

Police are shifting their efforts to the Macedon Ranges, in the search for a Bendigo man who has been missing for nearly two months.

John Cameron, 38, went missing in mid-October, but was recently seen accessing his bank account in Gisborne.

He is of medium height with a solid build and has brown hair and a goatee beard.

Senior Constable Sally Dunlop says Mr Cameron suffers from Asberger's Syndrome and is not taking prescribed medicines.

She says police need help from the public to find the man.

"Normally when he gets aware of police interest in where he is, he moves on, [but] it depends on how much he's entrenched himself into the area and how comfortable he is with his surroundings," he said.

"Apparently once he has access to trains and things, his location can change pretty regularly.

"John has Asberger's and should also be on medication which he isn't taking. We believe, from his visit to the bank, that his hygiene at the moment is also under question, which begs the question [of] whether he's being looked after.

"Normally he has care 22 out of 24 hours a day."

THE search for a missing Kennington man has moved to the Macedon Ranges after he was sighted in the Gisborne area just before Christmas.

John Cameron, 38, was last seen leaving his house in Lowndes Street on October 13.

Sergeant Jamie Ward of Bendigo police said Mr Cameron was seen withdrawing money from an ATM in the Gisborne area on December 23.

When he left Bendigo he was on his mountain bike and was carrying a backpack.

He is believed to be camping in the Macedon Ranges area.

“We are absolutely concerned for his welfare,” Sergeant Ward said.

“He has been out in the elements for three months almost. We are concerned for his wellbeing.

“We just want to find him and make sure he is safe and get him back to his care.

“We are still hopeful that everything will turn out for the best.”

Mr Cameron, who has Asperger’s syndrome, is described as 173cm tall with a solid build, short dark hair and a beard.

Sergeant Ward said Mr Cameron was in the care of a welfare agency, which had reported him missing.

Police are hoping to obtain CCTV footage from the bank branch this week to help with their investigation.

Sergeant Ward said Mr Cameron had his hair cut short.

“If anyone sees the man they are asked to contact their local police or Bendigo police communications on 5448 1300,” he said.
