Police concerned for welfare of elderly man missing from Wyoming

Police are seeking public assistance to locate an elderly man missing from an aged care facility on the state’s Central Coast.

Douglas Allan, 84, walked out the front door of the complex in Kalawarra Road, Wyoming, some time between 10.30am and 11am yesterday (Saturday 12 September).

Police from Brisbane Water Local Area Command were contacted just before 1.30pm after a search of the facility and nearby bushland by staff failed to locate Mr Allan.

A canvass of the surrounding neighbourhood was conducted by general duties police without success.

Police are concerned for Mr Allan’s wellbeing, as he suffers a medical condition that requires treatment, and are now seeking public help to locate him.

He’s been described as being of white/European appearance, 180cm tall with average build, grey/white hair and pale/pink skin. He was last seen wearing blue and grey striped hooded top, grey tracksuit pants and white joggers.

Anyone who sees Mr Allan or has any information on his current whereabouts is urged to contact Gosford Police Station via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Police have asked residents of the Central Coast suburb of Wyoming to check their backyards and properties to help in the search of an elderly man missing from an aged care facilty.

Douglas Allan, 84, walked out the front door of the complex in Kalawarra Road, Wyoming, some time between 10.30am and 11am Saturday 12 September.

Police hold fears for the welfare of Mr Allan who suffers from dementia and diabetes.

Officers from the Brisbane Water Local Area Command were contacted just before 1.30pm after a search of the facility and nearby bushland by staff failed to locate Mr Allan.

A canvass of the surrounding neighbourhood was conducted by general duties police without success.

Police are concerned for Mr Allan’s wellbeing, as he suffers a medical condition that requires treatment, and are now seeking public help to locate him.

The search for Mr Allan will continue today (Tuesday 15 September) and tomorrow, with the use of four-wheel-drive vehicles and trail bikes.

During the past three days, extensive land and air searches for Mr Allan have been conducted in the Wyoming, Holgate and Lisarow areas.

“We are asking that residents in the following areas please check their backyards in case Mr Allan has taken refuge in sheds, under bushes, under trees or anywhere else that may act as shelter or cover,” Inspector George Bradbury of Brisbane Water Local Area Command said.


The main areas are:

· Wyoming in the vincinty of Henry Kendall Gardens Aged Care Facilty, Kalawarra Road, Wyoming. Wyoming in the vicinity of Henry Kendall Gardens Aged Care Facility, Kalawarra Road, Wyoming.
· Streets around the eastern end of Maidens Brush Road, Wyoming
· Streets around the northern end of Bradys Gully Road, North Gosford
· Streets in the Toomeys Road and Taylors Road, Mount Elliott area
· Streets in the vicinity of Holgate including Gooriwa Road, Clyde Road and Murina Close. Streets in the vicinity of Holgate including Gooriwa Road, Clyde Road and Murina Close.

“We are asking the public to check for anywhere they think it might be possible for a person to go unnoticed in for a few days,’’ Insp Bradbury said.

Mr Allan is described as being of white/European appearance, 180cm tall with average build, grey/white hair and pale/pink skin. He was last seen wearing blue and grey striped hooded top, grey tracksuit pants and white joggers.

Police have renewed an appeal for public assistance to locate an elderly man missing from an aged care facility at Wyoming on the state’s Central Coast since September.

Douglas Allan, 84, walked out the front door of the complex in Maidens Brush Road at Wyoming between 10.30am and 11am on Saturday 12 September.

Police from Brisbane Water Local Area Command were contacted just before 1.30pm after a search of the facility and nearby bushland by staff failed to locate Mr Allan.

A canvass of the surrounding neighbourhood was conducted by general duties police without success, and a series of ongoing searches and inquiries over recent weeks have failed to locate him.

Police are concerned for Mr Allan’s wellbeing as he suffers a medical condition that requires treatment.

Mr Allan has been described as being of white/European appearance, 180cm tall with average build, grey/white hair and pale/pink skin.

He was last seen wearing blue and grey striped hooded top, pale grey tracksuit pants and white joggers with an orange trim, and a blue coloured peak cap (baseball style).

Anyone with information about Mr Allan’s disappearance or his current whereabouts is urged to contact Gosford Police Station via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

In particular, investigators would like to speak with anyone who saw Mr Allan in the vicinity of Maidens Brush Road at Wyoming on Saturday 12 September 2009, or who may have picked up a male person from that location on that day.
