Search prompts call for tourists to keep itinerary

Visitors to north-west Western Australia are being urged to keep an itinerary when travelling in the region and alert a friend or family member if they change their travel plans.

Kununurra police spent two days searching for a 36-year-old woman and her two children last week after family members in the Northern Territory raised concerns.

Police found the woman safe in Derby.

Senior Sergeant Phil Birch from Kununurra police says the north-west is a vast area and people do find themselves in trouble from time to time.

"The problem we've had of course is no itinerary, where do we start looking?" he said.

"We're not asking them to account for every minute, but ... if they can give an itinerary to their family, if there is some kind of delay, we've got some sort of idea where we can start looking."

Meanwhile, the family of a woman believed to be camping near Kununurra is urging her to make contact with them urgently.

Janine Doornbusch is believed to be driving a black Nissan four-wheel drive.

She is asked to contact family or Kimberley police as soon as possible.
