73 year old David GILBERT was last seen entering bushland from a campsite beside De Grey River, in De Grey via South Hedland, WA.

There are serious concerns for David's safety due to having no food or water.

 

Pilbara search continues for missing man

A two day ground and air search has failed to locate an elderly man missing near the Pilbara town of Port Hedland.

72-year-old David Gilbert has not been seen since he left the De Gray River Mouth camping ground on Friday afternoon, saying he was going for a walk.

More than 40 State Emergency Service volunteers from South Hedland, Karratha and Perth have joined police in the search.

Quad bikes and a helicopter are being used to scour the area.

 

Concerns for missing walker

Police in the Pilbara say they are putting every possible resource into the search for a missing Perth man from a local campsite.

72 year-old David Gilbert has not been seen since Friday afternoon when he went for a walk from the De Grey river camping ground north-east of Port Hedland and failed to return.

His wife raised the alarm.

More than 40 State Emergency Service volunteers from South Hedland, Karratha and Perth have joined police in the search and officers on quad bikes and a helicopter are also scouring the area.

Acting Senior Sergeant Dave Loverock says police hold grave fears for his safety.

"We are very concerned for his welfare, it's not the easiest terrain to traverse," he said.

"We've got some concerns about his physical fitness and his mental fitness and we want to recover him before the worst happens."

 

Possible sightings of missing Port Hedland man

South Hedland police say they are putting every possible resource into the search for missing Perth man David Gilbert.

The 72-year-old was last seen six days ago when he left his wife at their campsite on the De Grey river North East of Port Hedland, telling her he was going for a walk.

Police and volunteers have spent the last six days searching for him from the ground and air.

Acting Senior Sergeant Dave Loverock from South Hedland police says there have been a number of unconfirmed sightings of Mr Gilbert in the region.

"We've extended our search inquiries out to bank accounts to see if he has just jumped in a car and travelled to another town and used his car details there, we've had sightings or possible sightings as far as Kalbarri, Karratha, Broome, and some here in South Hedland," he said.

The land and air search in the De Grey River area was called off on Saturday.

While there have been numerous reported of sightings across the north-west, police say none have been confirmed as Mr Gilbert.

Police say inquiries will continue into possible sightings in other towns.
