Grieving mother Nina Crinis is pinning her hopes on a fresh sighting of her missing son after Wollongong Coroner Ian Guy yesterday adjourned an inquest to allow further police investigation.Brendan Crinis was 19 years old when he left the family's Tarrawanna home in the early hours of September 10, 2002, and never returned.Brendan was depressed at the time, but Mrs Crinis insisted to police his disappearance was out of character.In the following years there have been numerous reported sightings of Brendan as close to home as Coledale and as far away as Melbourne, but she has never lost hope of being reunited with her son.Coroner Guy was told yesterday that a cousin of the missing man believed she may have spotted Brendan walking along an overpass as the car in which she was travelling turned off the Hume Hwy near Narellan in April this year.But the cousin took more than a week to mention the sighting to Mrs Crinis.And it was several days after that before Tahlia Crinis, accompanied by a family friend, reported the sighting at Wollongong Police Station.However, no record of her report can be found.The inquest was told police later experienced difficulty in locating Tahlia to obtain a statement, however the girl's father and Mrs Crinis' brother Constantine attended the hearing yesterday.The coroner said that evidence before him to date contained indications that Brendan was deceased. But he believed it appropriate to adjourn the inquest and order a thorough police investigation into the reported sighting.Mr Guy called for an update on the police investigation be made available to him by June 24 and called on members of the public to come forward if they had any fresh evidence relating to Brendan's whereabouts.Outside court, Mrs Crinis said she had always remained hopeful of finding her son alive but the latest sighting gave her fresh hope. "I can only live in hope and pray and I am very happy the coroner has now ordered an investigation of this latest sighting," she said.
