homicide and
missing
persons
detectives
have joined
a search for
a man police
have been
told may be
living at
Wynyard.
Police
hold grave
fears for
the safety
of missing
person, Van
Edward
Caulton, 63,
formerly of
Queensland.
They
would not
say exactly
why homicide
detectives
were
involved.
He was
last
positively
sighted at
Charters
Towers,
North
Queensland,
in March
2006 and was
reported
missing to
Queensland
Police in
October
2008.
"He
suffers from
physical and
intellectual
impairments
and he has
required the
services of
a carer,"
police said
yesterday.
"Information
has been
received
that he
moved to
Tasmania in
late 2007
and may
currently be
in the
Wynyard area
in the
company of a
female of
Aboriginal
appearance
and olive
complexion
whose name
may be Jen
or Jan."
Police
said she was
also said to
be formerly
of Charters
Towers.
"Mr
Caulton may
make use of
a disability
scooter,
purple or
mauve in
colour, and
he has a
history of
frequenting
licensed
premises on
a regular
basis.
"Detectives
from
Queensland
Police
Missing
Persons Unit
and the
Queensland
Homicide
Unit are
currently on
the North-
West Coast
conducting
inquiries
with the
assistance
of the
Burnie CIB."
Police
said they
wanted to
talk to any
person,
business,
support
agency or
organisation
that may
know of Mr
Caulton or
who had
contact with
him at any
time.
He is
described as
being 157cm
and slim,
with grey to
white hair,
a fair
complexion
and blue
eyes.
