November 2011 - The Northern Star
CAROL Anderson walked out of the Palms Caravan Park in Tweed Heads
about 1.40pm (NSW) on Friday heading towards Fraser Dr.
She hasn't been seen since.
Police held grave fears last night for the 70-year-old, who suffers
Alzheimer's disease.
She is described as Caucasian, 160cm tall, with a medium build and
brown/grey collar length hair.
She was wearing a long white dress with shoe string straps and was
captured on CCTV footage as she left the park.
Police, surf rescue personnel and State Emergency Services volunteers
had created a makeshift base in the Palms Caravan Park club house yesterday
morning and had begun sending search teams to different areas in the
vicinity of the park.
Inspector Darren Steel of the Tweed Byron Local Area Command said the
land and river search began on Tuesday after police exhausted all other
lines of enquiry.
"Both Ms Anderson and her family are residents of the park," Insp
Steel said.
"We have conducted enquiries with them and residents in the
surrounding area but we've now progressed to a land search.
"People can assist police by checking their backyards and under their
houses, anywhere she may have taken shelter."
SES volunteers were informed heavy rain on Saturday night may have
caused the woman to take shelter somewhere, possibly under a house or in a
shed or garage.
Inspector Brad Stewart, also of Tweed Byron police, said the search
was suspended around 7pm Tuesday night and would resume Wednesday morning
before 7am.
"We urge anyone who knows where she is or who sees her to contact us
urgently. She may be confused because of her mental health situation."
Anyone with information on Carol Anderson's whereabouts should contact
Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Tweed police directly.

Police still puzzled by
disappearance of a Tweed woman
THE disappearance of Carol Anderson still puzzles police and during the
25th anniversary of Missing Persons Week they're renewing their appeal for fresh
information.

on November 11, 2011.
About 1.41pm Mrs Anderson walked onto Dry Dock Rd, Tweed Heads.
About an hour later, she walked along Fraser Dr.
Mrs Anderson left her home while her husband was sleeping and was expected
to return home but never did.
Later that year the SES and police conducted searches of the Tweed River
but she was not found.
In the weeks following her disappearance police used the Marine Area
Command (Drive Unit), Rescue Squad and SES to conduct both land and water
searches in an attempt to locate her.
She is described as Caucasian appearance, 155 cm tall, medium build, with
grey/brown shoulder length hair.
At the time of her disappearance, Mrs Anderson was wearing a long flowing
white dress with shoestring straps.
This year's campaign focuses on people living with mental illness, because
they are the group most at risk of going missing.
The campaign message - see the signs before they disappear - encourages
people to learn the potential warning signs that someone they know is not coping
and to seek help.
