Missing Man Slacks Creek

Last Updated: 27/07/2010

QLD Police are appealing for public assistance to help locate a 39-year-old Slacks Creek man who has been missing since May 27.

Jon Buchecker was last seen by his family at his home in Centenary Road at about 12pm.

Police hold concerns for Mr Buchecker as it is out of character for him to not return home or make contact with his family.

It is unclear what clothes he was wearing when he left his residence.

He is described as Caucasian in appearance, approximately 180cm tall, with a slim build, dark brown hair and blue eyes.

Anyone with information which could assist police with their investigations should contact Crime Stoppers anonymously via 1800 333 000 or crimestoppers.com.au 24hrs a day. Crime Stoppers is a charitable community volunteer organisation working in partnership with the Queensland Police Service.

Family's cry to find missing son continues

A LOGAN couple are appealing for help from the community following the disappearance of their son in May.

On May 27, 39-year-old Jon Buchecker left the caravan he was living in on his parents' Slacks Creek property at about midday, and hasn't been seen or heard from since.

His father, James Buchecker, said this was out of character for his son, and he and his wife had no idea where he could be.

But Mr Buchecker believed Jon hadn't made contact with his family because he was facing potential jail time.

“The situation was he fell in with a bad crowd who used to take speed and marijuana,” Mr Buchecker said.

“He had been busted twice, and his (court) hearing kept being deferred.

“He was due to go to court just after he went missing, and he expected to go to jail for a while.”

Mr Buchecker said Jon, who has been diagnosed with schizophrenia, had previously spent time in jail and it looked as though he had done ‘a runner' to avoid going back.

“We're worried about him,” he said.

“No one has seen or heard from him. We've been in contact with people he knew and they haven't spoken to him.

“He's probably thinking if he does make contact (with his family) the police would look at phone records and find him.”

Mr Buchecker described his son as having light brown hair, being quite fit and of an average height.

“He looks a bit like Lleyton Hewitt,” he said.

Mr Buchecker has appealed for anyone with any knowledge about Jon's disappearance or current location to contact the police.

Anyone with information which could assist police with their investigations should contact Crime Stoppers anonymously on 1800 333 000 or crimestoppers.com.au, 24 hours a day.

Father's despair for missing son

TEARS well up in Jim Buchecker's eyes at the thought he may never see his son again.

Not a day has gone by when he hasn't thought of his son Jon, who has not been seen or heard from since May last year.

But he is hoping a fresh plea may see Jon make contact with his family.

He described the past 15 months as awful because it was out of character for Jon not to return home or speak to his family.

“It's definitely a worry because every day I think about him and wonder where he is and if he is ok,” Mr Buchecker said.

The last time Mr Buchecker saw his son was at his house in Slacks Creek on May 27, at approximately 12pm. When he arrived back at the house Jon was nowhere to be found.

“We just thought someone may have picked him up and they were out doing something, and it wasn't until a few days later when we still hadn't seen him we became worried,” he said.

He believes his son, who has a mental condition and was using drugs may have overdosed with friends, who then disposed of his body.

Jon's bank account has remained untouched, which Mr Buckecker believed was a sign something terrible had happened.

But for now all Mr Buchecker can do is pray for a miracle while thinking about the fond memories they created together.

“We used to race pigeons together and that was very enjoyable,” he said.

“It was probably the best time we had together.”

Jon Buchecker is described as Caucasian in appearance, approximately 180cms tall with a small build, dark brown hair and blue eyes.

Jon Buchecker, 39, was last seen by family at his Centenary Rd, Slacks Creek home about midnight on May 27, 2010.

It was his father who had seen him last and had suffered considerably since his disappearance.

In a plea for help to find his son in 2011 Jim Buchecker said one sad theory was that Jon — who had a mental condition and was also thought to be using drugs — had overdosed while with friends who then disposed of his body.

However, according to the Australian Federal Police, it was possible Mr Buchecker had travelled interstate but said it was out of character for him not to make contact with family.

Jon Buchcker’s bank accounts remained untouched around the time he disappeared and he is yet to be found.
