Sister appeals to bring home missing Fairfield man Alan Ly

FAIRFIELD ADVANCE: “We want him home safe” — the family of missing Fairfield man Alan Ly have made a passionate appeal for help finding him.

Nine days after Fairfield man Alan Ly disappeared, his family have made a passionate appeal for help in bringing him home.

“We’re concerned. We’re stressed. We’re missing him,” older sister Melissa Ly said. “We want him home safe.”

The last time his family saw Mr Ly was at a lunch at his parent’s Villawood home last Tuesday at 2pm.

Ms Ly says that they realised he was missing the next morning.

“This is out of character for him,” she said.

“He’s very family oriented and he has a close group of friends so it is unusual that nobody in that group of friends knows where he is.”

The family believe that he may be with someone who does not know he is missing.

“We don’t think he is still in the local area, so we need to spread the word out as far as possible,” Ms Ly said.

“We think he may have met this person via Tafe.”

Mr Ly’s father, Va, recently passed away and his family believe that may have been the trigger for his disappearance.

Police say that Mr Ly’s phone and bank accounts have not been accessed since he disappeared.

They also say he is known to frequent the Drummoyne and Narrabeen areas in Sydney.

The 25 year-old is currently enrolled at Ultimo Tafe studying electrical engineering, but had also studied at Petersham and Granville TAFE in the past.

Mr Ly was last seen wearing maroon pants, white shoes and a red hooded jumper with a stripe and number on the back

Anyone with information about Mr Ly’s whereabouts is asked to phone Fairfield police on 9728 8399.

IT'S been 50 days since Alan Ly disappeared and his worried family and friends are searching for him.

Mr Ly, 25, was last seen 2pm on Monday, September 22 at his parents' home in Binna Burra Street, Villawood.

His phone and bank account have not been accessed.

His sister, Melissa Ly, 35, has made impassioned pleas for him to come home safely and said his absence has been "heart-wrenching".

"We're missing him badly. We want him to come back and be safe and be with our family," Ms Ly said.

"It's painful — not knowing anything; the fact that he's not with us or that we can't just call him and talk to him and just see him."

His sister described Mr Ly as "family orientated" with a small circle of friends and dedicated to fitness and sport.

She believed the death of their father a few months ago may have triggered his disappearance.

"We couldn't tell at the time, but for him to disappear this long he must have taken it really hard," she said.

"He was planning on taking a break after Dad passed away and we figured he needed a break from everything," she said.

"But everyone was shocked by his disappearance — no one expected it."

Among his circle of friends he was known for being "jokester" with a stoic personality, said his childhood friend of 19 years, David Lin.

He said Mr Ly planned to move to Japan for six months, to live in Tokyo. "I'm not sure where he might have gone, but this is all very out of character for him."

Ms Ly and Mr Lin said it was "extremely concerning" that Mr Ly has not made contact nor accessed his phone or bank account.

Fairfield police said they were working with the missing persons unit and they were unable to comment further.

Anyone with information on Alan Ly's whereabouts should ring Fairfield police on 9728 8399 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
